Choosing a Computer Monitor

Your monitor is the most expensive part in your computer. This means making the right decision when choosing a monitor can save you a lot of money. Choosing a monitor is a lot more complicated than simply choosing the size. There are many other factors to take into consideration. A computer monitor is essentially a high quality television which is why they are generally a lot smaller. This means a computer monitor has very high definition and the image is nice and stable on the screen. A lot of people spend many hours in front of a computer monitor so it is important than when you choose one, it is very well suited to you. When presented with different options for computer monitors, you will be given several different specifications. These specifications can be confusing at first so let s look at what these specifications mean. Resolution is the number of pixels on the screen. This commonly showed in the format X by X. The first X is the number of pixels along the top of the screen. All monitors have a maximum resolution. This is the maximum amount of pixels the monitor can display. This maximum resolution is not always the optimum operating level. The maximum operating level is usually slightly below the maximum resolution. High resolution monitors are great because you can see a lot more things on the screen. However, this also means that everything on the screen will be a lot smaller and could possible strain your eyes. If you re after a cheap monitor, most 15 inch monitors are capable of 1024 by 780 resolution But the standard at present is 17 inch. Vertical refresh rate is the speed at which the monitor compiles an entire screen. This refresh rate is measured in hertz. It is important that you get a monitor that operates at 85 hertz or above as this will ensure the screen is stable and doesn t flicker. Monitor size is pretty straight forward. Bigger monitors have a bigger picture so you can have higher resolutions without the icons getting too small. The bigger a monitor is the more it will cost. The best way to ensure your monitor has a nice quality image is to buy a good brand. Good brands such as Viewsonic and LG make quality monitors. Deciding on a quality computer monitor may take some time but it is well worth it. There are many brands to choose from, some good and some bad. The best bet would be to stick to the good brands. There are some great bargains out there.
